What’s in Our Bag? 35mm

May 6, 2013

Oh. My. Goodness, y’all. Is everyone in Georgia equally ready to see this rain head out on it’s merry way?! Yes?? Ok. Good. Then I won’t spend any more time complaining about it. I’ll just say that we are debating building an ark right now. Animals, two by two. Gopher wood. All that jazz.

Today we are posting about another lens that we use a lot when we shoot: the 35mm 2.0. Another small and cheap item. My love affair with this lens is still in the honeymoon stage. In fact, up until the Fall of last year, the only place we used the 35mm was in our photobooth setup. But ohhhh the winds are changing. The 35 is quickly becoming one of my favorite lenses. The more comfortable I get with really getting all up in the Wedding-Day action (especially during prep and reception) the more I am loving the look of this lens. The focal length gives me everything that I love about a wide angle lens (more goodness in your frame) without the things that I hate (making people have weird-looking alien-chins… aka distortion). It’s a prime lens, which I talked about a little bit here, but let me reiterate: I love that primes make ya move. Literally. When I don’t have the ability to turn a ring and zoom, I have to move my feet – which often results in a change in perspective that yields a WAY cooler shot than I would have gotten with Ye Olde Ring of Lazy.

This season has given me such warm fuzzies about this lens that I have added the 35mm 1.4 to my gear wishlist. Those of you who have the 35 1.4, I would love to know what you think about it!

  1. That shot of the parents with the bride!!!! Looooove! And I’m the same way… The 50mm is my baby but the 35mm 1.4 comes out of my bag more and more lately! I love the perspective it gives and all the storytelling you can fit in one frame! 🙂 get it! 🙂

I might have to consider using a Nikon lens for my 7D on my next wedding. Those images are incredible sharp! Amazing. I used the 35 1.4 on this wedding. Everything up to the reception is 35 and the rest is a mix. http://www.leonbailey.me/portfolio/holiday-inn-walt-disney-world-resort-wedding
