I just sat there, fully engulfed in the warmth of a bright blue blanket, as my eyes panned the room. Tears kept welling up, and I couldn’t make them stop. Every single person who sat there meant so much to me; they meant the World to me. I felt so much gratitude for them. For their sweet, sleeping children around us and the encouraging words being shared. “Is it weird to anyone else” I started “that we’ve only known each other a year?”. Because time is strange like that – it moves fast and it moves slow… all at once. And I could have sworn, as I sat there fighting back those happy tears, that I had known and loved them forever.

It’s the kind of people who are easy to sit with. But much more than that, it’s the kind of people who push you – sometimes gently and sometimes with as much force as they know you need. The kind of people who know your heart and who won’t let you settle for a life unlived. The kind of people who change you with their acceptance and love. The kind of people who know that your dreams are important – not just to you, but to the World – and so they push and push and love and push. That is what a Dreammunity is all about.

It’s the community of Dreamers around you. The crazy ones who cheer you on as you risk and jump – the audacious ones who pick you up, dust you off, and smile their sideways smiles as they cheer “do it again!”. We need these people. Dreams are heavy and they are not meant to be lifted by a single person – they require many hands; many hearts.

But you guys, here is the thing about community: you make it. You choose it. You nurture it and help it to grow with direct intention, and what you get back from your Dreammunity will sustain you through many ups and downs. Identifying the people who you want in your Dreammunity is easy – they are the ones who you can talk to for hours. The evenings where you look up and suddenly it’s 2AM and your abs hurt from laughing so hard? Yep. They’re the ones. Support them, and ask them to support you. They will.

Oh, and make sure that you have unlimited text messaging… because the group texts can get a little out of hand in a Dreammunity situation.
