How it Happened: Creating Unique Dress Shots

March 14, 2016

Over the past 9 years we’ve seen a LOT of Wedding Dresses. Like, over 350 of them. So creating unique dress shots has become one of our favorite challenges. We love trying to see them in different ways; to get a shot that does the job, and then to try and push it a bit further.

This images is one of our favorite dress shots of all time. We had already gotten a picture of the dress that we were happy with, and I remember Graham turning around with that look he gets when a lightbulb has gone off in his head. Basically, he was looking into the distance, and one of his eyebrows was raised slightly… so I backed off and let the man work.

He caught this dress and all of the windows in a reflection of the hotel we were in from the building across the street. He shot the image with a 70-200 around 70mm at f 2.8. The result was magic, and it made for one of the most beautiful dress images I’ve ever seen.
