Today we are going to be answering a question that we get a lot: what is an adventure shoot? We are also going to talk about the difference between an engagement shoot and an adventure shoot. Our couples have two different option for a pre-wedding photo shoot with us. We LOVE these shoots for a few reasons: it gives us a chance to get to know our amazing couples (their personalities and how they interact with each other), it gives us a chance to capture some beautiful images of our couples in a more normal situation (without the dress and suit), and it lets our couples become comfortable with how we shoot. They are some of our favorite kinds of shoots, and we often get asked which one is the right fit.

1. Engagement Shoot: These shoots last 1-2 hours and take place in more typical engagement shoot locations. In a nearby city, park or place that is meaningful to our couples. We love that engagement shoots allow our couples to spend quality time together and allow us to create some beautiful images that reflect what is so special about your relationship (which is why you are getting married!). There is no wrong way to do an engagement shoot – if you’re silly, be silly – if you’re serious, be serious – if you’re playful, be playful. We love using engagement shoots as a chance to show who you are, and our favorite thing is when couples who say they “aren’t good” at having their pictures taken leave an engagement shoot saying how much fun they had and how much they loved it. We typically deliver about 70-100 images from an engagement shoot.
2. Adventure Shoot: A location plays a really big role in an adventure shoot. On these types of shoots we like to think of the environment as a main character in the story of your adventure shoot. Whether you love the mountains, desert, your city, the beach or lakes, adventure shoots give us the chance to really explore a location for all of its goodness. Adventure shoots last longer than engagement shoots; usually 3 hours, and they always involve some type of exploration. We usually deliver around 150-200 images from an Adventure Shoot. We love adventure shoots because they take us out of the norm and allow us to do something truly memorable and fun. We hike, climb and explore and we have plenty of time to watch things unfold that might not normally happen on a typical engagement shoot.
