His dad had given him the axe as a gift. Hand forged in Switzerland. And some time later these two men and that axe went out into the woods to cut down the very tree that would be used to build their chuppah. Their blood, sweat and tears went into making the thing that would symbolize the covering and protection of their new family; their marriage. The roof over their head on their Wedding day was built for love and out of love, and there is such beautiful symbolism in that. The acknowledgement that marriage takes blood, sweat and tears; that creating safety for your family requires work – and that the work you put in brings so much joy.
