Last weekend we drove the family 5 hours west for an Ouray Engagement Shoot. More specifically, it was an adventure shoot. Any shoot that requires yak trax, wool socks and a hiking backpack makes us so happy. Not just because we love adventure (because we do), but because the views that you get when you’re willing to go off the beaten path are absolutely breathtaking. We also love the bond that we create with people when we end up in waist-deep snow together. It’s something special, and it’s one of those things that makes us feel incredibly grateful to have this little business as our jobs.

Ouray is the most charming little town. It looks like is came straight out of an old Western movie (but with updated, hip coffee shops that serve Italian creme sodas and provide board games for endless entertainment). As beautiful as Ouray is, the very best part of this little town is the people who live there. Everyone was so incredibly kind, never failing to offer a smile or a wave. They all stopped to tell us a bit of their stories, ask our kiddos about their plans for the day, and let us pet their dogs (who all seemed to know the town just as well as their owners; running around without leashes but with very clear intention).

Ouray’s claim to fame is the hot springs, and the fact that it marks the beginning of the Million Dollar Highway. The Million Dollar Highway is a 25 mile stretch of highway filled with stunning views (and exactly zero guardrails). This adventure found us driving that highway and stopping to hike up the mountain at every chance we had. It was beautiful, and we would do it every day if we could.
